Below you will find answers to many common questions about Mary Wash Giving Day.
What is Mary Wash Giving Day?
Mary Wash Giving Day (#MaryWashDay) is a 24-hour online day of giving to the University of Mary Washington. The day begins at 12 a.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, and goes until 11:59 p.m. that night. This is our second annual Mary Wash Giving Day; last year, 1,090 donors made 1,218 gifts, raising over $217,000 in one day! We have set a goal of 1,908 gifts on Mary Wash Giving Day, in honor of the University’s founding year. Each gift of $5 or more will be counted toward this goal.
What if the area I would like to support is not listed?
You may support any area at the University with your Giving Day gift. To designate your Mary Wash Giving Day gift to an area that is not listed above, please go to the Fund for Mary Washington page, enter your gift amount, choose “Other,” and you will be prompted to enter the designation for your gift on the checkout form.
How do Matches and Challenges work?
Your gift will automatically count toward any dollar-for-dollar match or challenge gift that applies. You will receive notification at checkout and recognition on the Donor Wall for multiplying your impact through a challenge gift.
What is the Donor Wall, and what if I don’t want to be listed?
Donors have three options upon making their gift: they can choose to have their name and gift amount displayed on the donor wall, they can choose to have just their name but not their amount displayed, or they can choose to have no information displayed. The choice is yours, but we encourage you to share your gift to inspire others!
How can I inspire others to give?
Sign up to be a Giving Day Ambassador! Data shows that when you post about Giving Day on social media, you inspire three more people to give. You will receive a toolkit and other resources for posting on social and emailing friends, and you will be able to track your impact on your own Ambassador page of the Giving Day site. Be sure to use #MaryWashDay in your posts!
Can I give to more than one area on Mary Wash Giving Day?
Yes! You can give to as many areas as you would like in a single submission of the donation form. On the donation form, click "+Add another gift to your donation," to make multiple gifts in the same transaction. On the UMW Athletics page, you can give to Friends of Athletics and to any teams you would like to support in one simple checkout process. On the College of Arts & Sciences page, you can give to the College and any academic department(s) within the College. Of course, you can always designate your gift to “Other” and specify your preferred designation if it is not listed.
What is the minimum gift amount?
The minimum gift amount on Mary Wash Giving Day is $5.
Is it safe to make my gift on the Mary Wash Giving Day site?
Yes. The site is 100% secure, and gifts are made over Transport Layer Security. Also, your information is used only by the University of Mary Washington and the University of Mary Washington Foundation and is never shared with a third party.
Can I sign up for a recurring gift on Giving Day?
Due to the volume of gifts on Giving Day, we are unable to set up recurring gifts on this day. Please contact the Office of Annual Giving if you would like to enroll in recurring giving: 888.692.0004 or email@example.com.
