College of Arts and Sciences

The departments and programs of the College of Arts and Sciences are the heart of our liberal arts education at Mary Washington, supporting student learning both in and outside of the classroom.

To continue and grow support for student learning opportunities, the College of Arts and Sciences aims to build a $1 million endowed fund – Beyond the Classroom: An Endowment for Student Research and Learning. Reaching the $1 million goal will enable the College of Arts and Sciences to provide approximately $40,000 every year to support high-impact student learning experiences that take our students beyond the classroom.

After reaching our first milestone of $100,000 in fall 2020, our goal is to reach $250,000 in 2021, all to help support future UMW students in their experiential learning.

Your gift will provide support to students in the following activities:

  • High quality, yet often unpaid, internships
  • Study-away and study-abroad experiences
  • Independent research projects
  • Registration for, and often travel to, conferences to present research findings
  • the annual Summer Science Institute research program

You can support this CAS endeavor, as well as donate directly to the departments or programs of your choice by choosing from the menu on the giving form.
