College of Arts and Sciences

At the heart of the University of Mary Washington's College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is a commitment to fostering critical thinking, leadership, and innovation across over 40 diverse majors. To sustain this dynamic learning environment, we rely on the CAS General Fund which allows us to respond quickly to urgent and unexpected needs. From repairing essential equipment to funding key events, this fund ensures we have the flexibility to adapt to any challenge that arises.

For #GivingTuesday, we are asking for your support to help keep the College of Arts and Sciences agile, responsive, and ready to seize opportunities as they come. By contributing to the CAS General Fund, you are empowering us to continue providing the resources that enrich the educational experiences of our students and faculty. Your gift directly supports:

  • Purchases and repairs for critical classroom and laboratory equipment.
  • Speakers and events like the Liz Clark Lecture and Arab Culture Night that enhance academic and cultural programming.
  • Faculty development initiatives, including specialized training for the Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program.
  • Engagement between students, faculty, and community organizations such as the Northern Virginia Conservation Trust, providing networking opportunities and career-advancing experiences.

We are excited to announce a special opportunity for Giving Tuesday: Julie Seder ’71 will match all gifts to the CAS General Fund up to $5,000! Julie’s journey from a fine arts student to a successful career in writing and editing—culminating in 16 years at the Pentagon—highlights the transformative power of a CAS education. Now residing in the Northern Neck of Virginia, she balances her professional passions with her love for art, designing and selling jewelry.

Join us in making a difference today—your generosity will have a lasting impact on the entire UMW community.
