Mary Wash Day
The College of Education faculty, staff, and students work alongside local schools to combat some of the most critical needs in our communities - addressing teacher shortages, meeting the social and emotional learning needs of K-12 students, and improving teaching and learning in schools.
Each semester numerous COE students complete practicum experiences in area schools with a focus on meeting K-12 students’ learning needs, with a significant number of COE students completing year-long internships in area schools annually. In addition to enhancing their teaching skills in the field, it is a vital service to the schools where they are placed.
Your financial support for the COE along with its programs and resources allows us to focus on aiding our students as they embark on an amazing career of teaching the next generations to come. Your generous gifts uplift our students who want to be teachers by helping them with items such as scholarships, licensure assessments, and internship support. That’s why we can’t do it without YOU (#TogetherUMW)!
The University of Mary Washington (UMW) College of Education, long distinguished for its excellence in teacher preparation, has expanded its academic mission to include specialized nursing pathways. Grounded in a shared commitment to student empowerment, leadership, and public service, our BSN completion and new Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs are designed to cultivate empowered leaders. By applying the College’s proven mentorship model, we prepare nurses to excel not only as clinical experts but as powerful advocates and educators in the healthcare field.
College of Education 100-Gift Challenge: When the College of Education receives 100 gifts during Mary Wash Day, Barbara Bishop Mann ’66 will unlock a $35,000 gift to support UMW students completing their student teaching internships.
UMW Nursing: Two Programs Twice the Opportunity: As we grow from one nursing program to two (BSN and MSN), Beth and Thomas Talisman ’86 will match every gift to UMW nursing, dollar for dollar, during Mary Wash Day, up to $2,000.
