Phil Smith '10-Talley Center Endowment

Phil Smith '10 received his Bachelors degree in business administration with a focus in accounting. Upon graduation from Mary Washington, Phil turned his education into a career in the accounting field, ultimately opening his own business where he offered tax advice to individuals and businesses. Phil battled mental health issues and depression for many years. When Phil passed away in October 2020, his loss reminded friends and family of the value and uniqueness of every human life. His family and friends wanted to create a memorial fund to honor Phil’s legacy and to turn his challenges with mental health and suicide into education and promoting conversation for current and future UMW students.

Your support to this endowment will enable the Talley Center to provide increased resources to help students who are battling depression or mental health issues, as well as provide education and guidance to students, faculty, and staff to help others through a challenging time and spot the signs of depression and suicidal thoughts.
